Author Interview – Todd Cheney

What do you do to unwind and relax?

Video games mostly, that and watching football. Rarely I will get into a TV show. That comes around maybe once a year or two. Movies are good as well.

What do you hope people will take away from your writing? How will your words make them feel?

I hope to make my readers feel uplifted and enlightened. I want them to realize that although there have been many dark nights, which they have lived through the eyes of the book characters, that still a new day can dawn.

How do you feel about social media websites such as Facebook and Twitter? Are they a good thing?

Yes, definitely. And I’m not just saying that because I’m also in IT. I think they have changed the world and will continue to change it, at least for the near future. Well, if the Internet doesn’t fall apart that is.

What are you most passionate about? What gets you fired up?

I get excited about new things. When something is new, it feels fresh and alive. I try to bring that to my writing as well.

How do you feel about self-publishing?

I feel awesome about it. I’m so glad I did it. Of course, it won’t make you a millionaire overnight. Few things do (the lottery), and those sometimes aren’t good ways to get money.

When you get free time on the internet or you go to the library – what do you want to read about?

The news, mostly. Ironically, I don’t feel the need to go to the library. Since I have a tablet with Kindle on it, I can get anything I might want to read from there. There are plenty of free books on there and I continue to get them even though I haven’t picked one up recently.

What is your favorite quote, by whom, and why?

“Our life is what our thoughts make it.” Marcus Aurelius

I need to think happy thoughts. Only happy thoughts!

What’s your favorite place in the entire world?

My easy chair. I’m not much of a traveler.

Do you recall how your interest in writing originated?

I used to read a lot and thought, “Well, I can do this writing gig too!” I didn’t know what I was getting into.

What made you want to be a writer?

Well, at first I was delusional and thought I would make millions. Now, I’m slightly less delusional. Good start???

Did writing this book teach you anything and what was it?

Yes, I learned to type better. Oh, and I learned that I can sometimes accomplish what I set out to do. I think those are both important lessons.

Do you intend to make writing a career?

I would if I could or knew how. Maybe someday I will.

Have you ever had writer’s block? If so, what do you do about it?

Yes, seven years long. And I haven’t done anything about it. I’m not sure if I should.
