Do you find it hard to share your work?
At first I did. In fact, when I first started writing, I felt much like an imposter. Having had no real training in writing, I thought it was a fluke when finally got published. However, with each publication, I discovered that I really am a good writer, and now I have no difficulty sharing my work with others. It’s now a natural expression.

Is your family supportive? Do your friends support you?
In addition to my husband, my Mom is my greatest fan. She’s the first one to purchase copies of my book for friends and other family members. And in general, my friends are supportive. One thing that works for me is to send postcards to my Christmas card list, announcing my new book and suggesting people purchase copies for upcoming holiday gifts for their friends and families. People are always happy to help promote my effort. I just have to ask.

Do you plan to publish more books?
Yes, of course. In addition to my butterfly poetry book, I’m working on a poetry book about birds, including full-color photographs. Also, I’m finishing up an inspirational non-fiction book called, “Becoming a Woman of Worth: Creating a More Confident You, which I’m hoping to have finalized for publication in February.

What else do you do to make money, other than write?
It is rare today for writers to be full time… I supplement my writing income by speaking on my book topics or teaching writing and marketing classes. I also manage an online coaching business to help women develop confidence and self-esteem for greater personal success.

What other jobs have you had in your life?
I spent many years working in the technology industry and have held positions in sales, marketing, business planning and strategy, and communications, all of which have helped me in the business side of writing.

How do you write – lap top, pen, paper, in bed, at a desk?
I prefer to write using a computer, but will often outline my work on paper first. Having spent so many years in the technology business, I feel naked without my computer close at hand!

Where do you get support from? Do you have friends in the industry?
I have been blessed with a number of mentors in the writing industry, as well as in the field of marketing. I consider those relationships divine appointment and have learned that experts in any field are willing to help, coach, and guide others toward greater success. One just has to ask.

How much sleep do you need to be your best?
At my age, (which I won’t tell), I need seven hours to perform well, and eight to perform at my best. I also do my best work when my sleep routine is regular and uninterrupted.

Is there anyone you’d like to acknowledge and thank for their support?
I’d like to thank my husband, who tirelessly encourages my passion for literature and writing. As a published author himself, he challenges me regularly in my writing craft and is my biggest cheerleader.

Tell us about your new book? What’s it about and why did you write it?
My new book is entirely different from my usual inspirational short stories, and blends the brilliance and whimsy of classic poetry with the magic and mystery of butterflies. Featuring a collection of enchanting compositions from literary classics (Emily Dickinson, Robert Frost, Victor Hugo, Mary Darby Robinson, and D. H. Lawrence, just to name a few), I compiled this book because I just LOVE butterflies. And, with each book purchased, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the National Butterfly Center to expand the education, conservation, and scientific research of these beauties, making this the gift that keeps on giving!
