Q: What inspires you to write and why?
A: Horrible plots and amazing characters. I want to fix the plots, and I want to recreate the characters’ speech patterns.
Q: What genre are you most comfortable writing?
A: Young Adult Fantasy.
Q: What do you consider the most challenging about writing a novel, or about writing in general?
A: Finding a chain long enough to let me reach the bathroom but short enough that I can’t wander so far away from my computer that I get distracted by something shiny.
Q: Have you developed a specific writing style?
A: Yes, and I will break it soon, so help me! I am constantly trying to change my writing style.
Q: Who designed the cover?
A: Katy Sena.
Q: Why did you choose to write this particular book?
A: I was taking a class in children’s literature, and when we got to the fairy tale portion of the class I zeroed in on The Frog Prince for three reasons: 1.) It only possesses a small amount of the elements that make a fairy tale a fairy tale 2.) I realized many of the novel adaptations I’d read previously focused on the princess and not the prince, even though he’s the one who’s struggling the most 3.) I always got a kick out of the fact that in the Grimm version, the princess doesn’t kiss the frog but throws him into a wall. Apparently, animal cruelty broke the spell. Who would have thought?
Q: What was the hardest part about writing this book?
A: The romance and creating believable reactions/logical actions.
Q: Will you write others in this same genre?
A: Heck, yeah.
Q: How much of the book is realistic?
A: Well, it is in the fantasy genre, so you tell me.
Q: Have you included a lot of your life experiences, even friends, in the plot?
A: Of course. My best friend turns me into a frog every week, because I don’t text her back in time.
